The Bruderhof Saving
Childhood
Forum at http://www.savingchildhood.org
is for anyone who believes that children need and deserve time and
space
simply to be children. It features discussions on relevant topics and
trends
such as the damaging effects of TV, as well as ideas to help make
childhood
memorable and a weekly email offering constructive games, arts or
crafts
activities to do with children.

New Envirokids Web Site:
Kid-Tested,
Mother (Earth) Approved
Get the scoop on salmon, the word
on
worm composting and the read on recycling at
www.cityoftacoma.org/envirokids,
the City of Tacoma’s new Web site for elementary-age children who care
about the environment. The EnviroKids Web site was developed by
environmental
educators from the City of Tacoma’s award-winning EnviroChallenger
Program.
Sponsored by Tacoma Public Works Environmental Services, the program
brings
eight environmental lessons to Tacoma’s K-5 classrooms free of
charge.
EnviroKids features earth-friendly tips, fun word searches and goofy
environmental
songs written by the EnviroChallenger educators. Web sleuths can test
their
knowledge of environmental practices with quizzes about water quality,
household hazardous waste, garbage, recycling and more. The site also
introduces
projects that kids can make from household items they would otherwise
throw
away or recycle. An art gallery with environmental pictures drawn by
local
youth adds another dimension to the site. EnviroKids also is a great
tool
for educators. Teachers will find everything from the life cycle of a
salmon,
to information about worms and composting, to ways to turn old pop
bottles
into an amusing game. Visit http://www.cityoftacoma.org/envirokids.
